Akwa United will be aiming for all three points when they face neighbours Godswill Akpabio United FC in a Matchday 15 clash on Thursday, 26 March 2026, at the Uyo Township Stadium. Kick-off is set for 3pm.
Although listed as the away side, Akwa United return to familiar ground, a venue where they have been dominant this season. The Promise Keepers are unbeaten at the stadium and have conceded just once there, a penalty in the reverse fixture against the same opponents.
The first meeting between both sides ended 1-1 in dramatic fashion on Matchday Four. Samuel Bassey gave Godswill Akpabio United the lead from the penalty spot in stoppage time, before Ndifreke Etim struck late to earn Akwa United a share of the points.
With four matches left this season, both teams head into this Matchday 15 encounter needing points for different reasons. Akwa United sit top of NNL Conference B with 28 points, while Godswill Akpabio United are on 19 points and pushing to improve their position.
A win for Akwa United will further strengthen their grip at the top as they continue their push for promotion, currently holding a four-point lead over second-placed Sporting Lagos.
Speaking ahead of the match, head coach Paul Offor expressed confidence in his team and praised the players’ attitude in training.
“Our game against Godswill Akpabio FC is a very important one for us. I am very happy with the character and attitude the players have shown in training ahead of this match,” Offor said.
“I have watched us improve with every game, especially here in Uyo. Going into this match, we have conceded only one goal here.
“We have to approach this game like it is a home game for us. That is the mentality I want to see. We have to give the fans a reason to cheer.
“I want us to maintain a top mentality so we can come out with three points, which will be crucial to us achieving our objective this season.”
He also called for continued support from the fans.
“The fans have been amazing this season, and I expect them to come out again and cheer the boys to victory on Thursday,” Offor added.
