Akwa United secured a narrow victory over Rovers FC in a pre-season friendly at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, with Michael Okenwa scoring the decisive goal in the second half.
Coach Paul Offor, whose side defeated Rovers FC home and away in the league last season, used the encounter to assess the fitness levels of his players and further strengthen the team’s cohesion ahead of the new campaign.
Both teams are putting the finishing touches to their respective pre-season programmes as they prepare for the new Nigeria National League (NNL) season, scheduled to kick off on October 31.
Akwa United and Rovers FC will compete in different conferences in the upcoming NNL season, with both sides targeting promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
