Akwa United will continue their promotion charge in the Nigeria National League Conference B this weekend when they face Stormers SC of Abeokuta in a Matchday 11 encounter at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium on Sunday.
The Promise Keepers sit atop Conference B with 22 points from ten matches and head into the fixture on the back of five consecutive victories. Their hosts, Stormers SC, occupy sixth position on the log with 14 points from the same number of games, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown in Abeokuta.
Coach Paul Offor’s side have demonstrated impressive squad depth this season, with ten different players contributing to the team’s 14 goals so far. The club strengthened its ranks during the mid-season transfer window with the addition of six quality players. One of the new arrivals, midfielder Aniebiet Sunday, made an immediate impact by scoring the decisive goal in a 1–0 victory over Rovers in Uyo.
Akwa United will be seeking a season double over Stormers, having secured a 2–0 win in the reverse fixture on Matchday 8 in Uyo. While Stormers have scored 16 goals and conceded 14, Akwa United boast the league’s meanest defence, conceding just six times while scoring 14 goals.
For Sunday’s crucial encounter, Coach Offor has retained the core of the squad that featured in the Matchday 10 fixture in Uyo, underlining his confidence in the team’s consistency and cohesion.
Speaking during the team’s final training session in Uyo, Offor warned against complacency and urged his players to remain focused.
“As we prepare for this match against Stormers, we must understand that it will not be an easy game. We have to be fully committed and focused on the task ahead. The journey to our destination is still long, and there is no room for complacency,” he said.
“As coaches, we believe in your ability. There are no easy matches in this league, so we must always be prepared, maintain our consistency, and approach every game with a winning mentality. If we play as a unit and take our chances, we are confident of achieving our objective at the end of the season.”
