Paulinus Okon was named Man of the Match after scoring in Akwa United’s 2-0 victory over Stormers FC in a Nigeria National League Matchday eight fixture played on Sunday, January 4, 2025, in Uyo.
Paulinus - a first-class graduate of Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering from University of Uyo opened the scoring deep into first-half stoppage time, rising highest to send a looping header into the net from a well-delivered cross by Yannick Menegbe.
The goal gave the Promise Keepers a deserved lead and set the tone for the win as they went on to secure all three points.
The goal continued Okon’s fine run of form. It followed his goal in Akwa United’s final match of 2025, when he came off the bench to score in a 3-1 away victory over First Bank FC in Lagos. His latest effort also marked Akwa United’s first goal of 2026 and his second of the season.
Okon was presented with the Man of the Match award at full time. Speaking after receiving the honour, he expressed delight and said the recognition was only a foundation to work harder and perform even better as the season progresses.
Okon joined Akwa United last season but was unable to break into the team. He has been instrumental and an integral part of coach Paul Offor's team this campaign.
